What is it to visit the majestic Netherlands without a jump to a windmill. The iconic structure is a must-see for tourists, travellers, globetrotters, whatever you call yourselves. There are several windmills in and around Amsterdam, Molen van Sloten and Riekermolen are amongst the finest.

Short time, snowfalls, penniless, we decided to visit the closest windmill – 15 minutes walk from our semi-basement Prinshedrikkadestraat apartement. Brouwerij ‘t IJ is located in the former Funen bathhouse. It has a pub serving beers and coffee.
We took pictures, and suddenly a gentleman with a bicycle stopped. He offered to take pictures of us, gave tidbits of the brewery’s history, and proudly said that he loved Southeast Asia. He rode his bicycle a few meters before coming back to us for more pictures and conversation.
